Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, held a joint meeting in the presence of a number of leaders of the two ministries, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in the administrative capital, to discuss ways to develop sugar production factories from sugar cane, and joint coordination to protect water resources from pollution with the products of sugar factories.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Swailem thanked Dr. Farouk, praising the distinguished cooperation between the two ministries in all issues of common concern, and in a way that is reflected in the protection of water resources from pollution, and the development and support of national industries in a way that is reflected in the support of the national economy.

For his part, Dr. Farouk stressed his keenness to continue communication between the two ministries in a way that is reflected in the public interest and the service of the national economy, while preserving natural resources, especially water resources from any waste or pollution.

During the meeting, the position of the ongoing and future procedures was presented to deal with the waste resulting from sugar production factories, and to discuss the best and most appropriate roads and technical solutions that meet the environmental conditions and achieve protection for water resources from pollution, by implementing environmental sanitation plans for these factories in a way that leads to the compatibility of drainage resulting from the factories with the environmental standards of the nine sugar factories (Edfu – Kom Ombo – Armant – Qus – Nag Hammadi – Dishna – Abu Qurqas – Gerga – Al -Hawamdiya).

The two ministers stressed the importance of developing factories with the aim of reconciling their conditions and achieving environmental compatibility, and relying on water recycling technology in a closed circle inside factories to reduce water consumption and reduce environmental impacts on water resources, and the continuation of cooperation between the two ministries and all ministries and relevant authorities to ensure the protection of waterways from all forms of pollution, according to the Acts of Water Resources and Irrigation No. 147 of 2021, and the Nile River Protection Law Water of pollution No. 48 of 1982 amending Law No. 103 of 2015.

The two ministers quickly prepared a short -term and long -term plan to develop factories and implement environmental sanitation plans for them, relying on one of the specialized consulting offices and in coordination with development partners if needed, to determine the best scenario to deal with the waste of sugar factories, and to study the use of refrigeration technology in sugar factories, increased capacity and raising the efficiency of treatment units in factories, and adjusting the water recycling path inside the factory to reduce the amount of water Consumer and reduce the amount of waste resulting from factories.
