The Bahrain Space Agency presented the fifth symposium in its series of awareness seminars, in cooperation with the Bahraini Society for Smart Cities, under the title “The role of space science in environmental and health disaster management”, in conjunction with the International Environment Day and the International Day for Combating Desertification, which was presented by the engineer Aisha Al -Mahmoud, the space data analyst in the team of image analysis and space data laboratory team.
The symposium highlighted the importance of space science in supporting the efforts of countries and smart cities to predict disasters, monitor their effects, and accelerate recovery and rehabilitation. It also discussed the vital relationship between the expansion of cities and the increasing environmental pressure. The symposium also dealt with live examples of global reality, about a number of environmental and health disasters, and the role of space data in enabling sustainable planning and the speed of decision -making. The symposium also reviewed a number of projects implemented by the agency in the field of disaster management.
The symposium witnessed a remarkable interaction from the attendees who showed great interest in the agency’s projects in the field of using space management data, as many questions were raised about how to benefit from these projects and the possibility of cooperating to implement these technologies to benefit from the outputs of space analyzes in supporting emergency response plans at the national and regional levels.
On its presentation of this symposium, the engineer, Aisha Al -Mahmoud, stated: “Today’s space science has become a vital tool to enhance the readiness of smart cities, smart dealing with environmental and health disasters, and to take decisions based on accurate data to protect lives, property and infrastructure. I was delighted to provide this workshop that highlighted the importance of space data in supporting preparation and response efforts, and I have touched a positive interaction from Participants in the importance of space techniques to serve human and the environment. Enhancing awareness of space capabilities at the national level is a basic step towards building a more ready and innovative society and its death for the important role of space in our daily life.
It should be noted that the organization of this symposium came within the framework of the efforts of the Bahrain Space Agency to spread scientific awareness and enhance the optimal use of space technologies in supporting national plans to confront environmental and health crises, and to keep pace with global challenges related to climate change and natural disasters, in line with the directions of Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and the national strategy to reduce disaster risk.
