After years of patents and silent leaks, Apple appears to be preparing to enter the foldable phone market.
Reports indicate that the expected device may see the light in the second half of 2026, while the huge production is expected to start at the end of the third quarter of 2025.
Between design, engineering and technical partnerships, here are the details that have emerged so far.
Interior design similar to tablets
The sources confirm that Apple will not follow the style of small folding phones, but rather will provide a device that opens to reveal a large 7.8 -inch interior, which is a percentage that places it in a position closer to the iPad Mini than just a smartphone.
This design will give the user closer to the tablet, but a size that fits the pocket when folding a width rate to a height of 4: 3, which is an unusual but practical option for multiple tasks and reading.
Screen without wrinkles .. finally?
The most characteristic of the phone is Apple’s attempt to eliminate the major problem in all folding phones, which is the wrinkle in the middle of the screen, and it seems that the solution will be through a metal plate at the bottom of the screen that distributes the pressure evenly during folding, and Samsung Display is responsible for supplying the screens for this project, which confirms that Apple chose the highest manufacturing standards despite its dependence on a direct competitor.
Amazing thinner and complex hinges technology
The device when opening it will only 4.5 mm thick, while it reaches 9.5 mm when it folds, which makes it the thinnest foldable phone that has been developed so far.
The external body of titanium, the same metal used in the iPhone 15 Pro, will be made with accurate hinges that depend on liquid alloys and laser drilling techniques to reduce the pressure on the screen.
Touch ID and changes in the camera
Multiple leaks expect to give up Face ID due to the space, changing it with a combined Touch ID sensor in the power button.
As for the rear camera, it will bear two 48 -megapixel lenses, while the front camera will be hidden below the inner screen to ensure a complete visual experience without cutting.
Price and availability
It is expected that the most expensive phone in Apple’s history will be between 1800 and 2000 USD, and despite the company’s ambition to charge up to 15 million units in the first year, but the reality may impose a fewer number due to the difficulty of manufacturing and the cost of high components.
What makes the entry of Apple different?
The foldable phone market is still limited, but the entry of Apple always moves stagnant water. If the company succeeds in solving the wrinkle dilemma and providing a slim design without sacrificing performance, it may reshape the market and push competitors to rethink their standards.
