Annabel’s doll became one of the most popular symbols of horror in popular culture, especially after her first appearance in The Conjurt in 2013, which highlighted the investigators of supernatural phenomena Ed and Lauren Warren. But what many do not know is that the doll that terrified millions of viewers is actually based on a real doll that is believed to be inhabited.
The true story behind the Annabel doll
The original Annabel doll is not as it appeared on the screen with solid diabolical features, but rather a Ragpedy Ann fabric doll, and it was bought in 1970 from an antiques store and presented a gift to her daughter Donna, a student at the College of Nursing.
After the doll reached the Donna apartment, strange events began to repeat, and the doll appeared in different locations of the room, in situations that no one put in it, as mysterious leaves appeared in a childish handwriting saying, help us, “and helped Lu.
These facts prompted Donna and her friend Angie to consult a spiritual mediator, who told them that the spirit of a child named Annabel Higins, who died at the site before building the apartment, is the one who inhabits the doll, but their friend was not convinced, and after suffering a mysterious attack, they asked for help from a priest, who in turn contacted the two investigators, Ed and Lauren Warren.

Where is the doll now?
The doll was kept in the mysterious Warns Museum until it was closed in 2019 for reasons related to construction permits, and since then, Annabel has appeared in events and conferences, including tours entitled Devils on the Run across the United States.
In July 2025, while the tour stopped in the city of Getsburg, Pennsylvania, Dan Rivera, an investigator at the New England Psychological Research Association (NESPR), died suddenly while accompanying the doll. It has not yet announced the cause of his death, adding new mystery to the legend of Annabel.
Are Annabel films real?
Although the doll is actually real, Annabel’s films are based on a fictional story, but in Annabelle in 2014, the story is linked to a demonic sect and rituals to evoke lives, which is not related to reality.
