On Thursday, the medical and surgical team of the “Saudi Program for Completed Twins” succeeded in separating the Saudi Siamese twins “Yara and Lara”, who are 8 months old, at King Abdullah Specialist Hospital for Children in King Abdulaziz Medical City at the Ministry of National Guard in Riyadh.
The operation was performed by the medical team consisting of 38 consulting and specialized members in anesthesia, pediatric surgery, urology, beauty and bones, and a nursing and technical staff, in 9 stages, to deal with the common parts of twins, which included the area of the lower abdomen, pelvis, colon and rectum, subscription and other overlap in the urinary, vertical and pelvic bone.
Dr. Abdullah Al -Rabiah, the general supervisor of the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action, announced the success of the operation that started on Thursday morning, appreciating what the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman attached to the sponsorship, interest and unlimited support for the program.
Al -Rabiah stressed that this support enabled the Saudi medical team to provide the highest standards of specialized medical care, and contributed to improving the quality of life for beneficiaries and their families, and established the Kingdom’s position in humanitarian and medical work, appreciating the efforts of its colleagues, and the professional and humanitarian work that embodies the noble values of Saudi Arabia and its people in the service of man wherever it is.
He added that the attached Saudi twin “Yara and Lara” was born on November 5, 2024, and their weight reached two to 10 kilograms, each with independent upper and lower parties, and the team also conducted accurate tests, held several meetings, and decided to separate them.
This is the 65th case in the history of the program, which evaluated 150 cases of 27 countries during his career, which spanned about 35 years, including 45 Saudi twins. The program was able to successfully separate 64 cases, and the last operation No. 16 of the Saudi twins, who have been separated so far.
Al -Rabiah indicated that the program continues to develop its therapeutic and research programs, and update them according to the latest science, as well as transferring accumulated experiences and knowledge to medical cadres inside and outside Saudi Arabia, in a way that ensures the sustainability of the impact and expanding the circle of beneficiaries.
He stressed that the continuous successes achieved by the program reflects the Saudi excellence in this precise field, and enhances the country’s position as a global center for medical leadership in separating attached twins and other vital specialties.
