Bahrain completes its sustainable initiatives locally and internationally to preserve the environment and combat climate changes

The Kingdom of Bahrain has made valuable efforts locally, regional and globally in protecting and preserving the natural and human environment and natural resources, to ensure the sustainability of the development process to secure future generations, in addition to making a tangible run in the participation of global efforts to address the crisis of climate change and enhance the values of the green environment and sustainable development.

These targets and achievements reflect the insightful vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the king of the country, may God protect and preserve him, and the continuous follow -up and support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him, in addition to the continuous efforts made by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the personal representative of His Majesty the Great King and Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Environment.

The allocation of the Kingdom of Bahrain comes as a national day to the environment that falls on February 4 of each year, a translation of the great interest that the Kingdom of Bahrain attaches to preserving a clean, healthy, sustainable environment that achieves the United Nations development targets and the vision of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s economic.

On the occasion of the celebration of the National Day of the Environment 2025, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the personal representative of His Majesty, the President of the Supreme Council for the Environment, affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain has a good presence and reputation among the leading countries in the field of preserving the environment and climate, by making all efforts to protect the environment and its resources, and implement the most important plans, programs and projects in order to achieve water sustainability, the most important of which is the national water strategy for the years (2021 – 2030), which reflects the government’s commitment to its program for the years (2023 – 2026) and its alignment with the sustainable development goals, especially the sixth goal related to the provision of clean water and sanitation services, by applying the concepts of integrated management of these resources and enhancing effective water use and drug treatment and reuse, in addition to employing innovative solutions to improve water consumption efficiency.

The Supreme Council for the Environment, in cooperation with the Ministry of Oil and the Environment and the relevant authorities, is keen to continue to adopt initiatives and legislation to enhance environmental sustainability, spread environmental culture among citizens and residents, encourage the use of environmentally friendly technologies, and enhance community participation from all official and private authorities to preserve the marine and land environment and climate in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

In order to preserve the environmental balance system in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Supreme Council for the Environment has developed public policies and national strategy to advance the Bahraini environment and protect them from the dangers that may be exposed to taking a series of necessary preventive measures and decisions that coincide with the latest regional and international agreements in preserving the environment, including those related to the implementation of Bahrain’s obligations in terms of reducing carbon emissions by 30% by public solutions 2035, and reaching the carbon neutrality in 2060, and achieving the successful successes in the field of crop trees around the coastal line of the Kingdom through the “Board of Bahrain” initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa in December 2024, and it had a pivotal role in the progress of the project and achieving its national environmental goals by doubling the numbers of Crimea trees, depending on the latest technologies and sustainable cultivation methods.

It also came among the measures taken by the Supreme Council for the Environment, the control and disposal of industrial and dangerous waste, the treatment of landfills, the reclamation of polluted lands, the treatment of the Sunni water to exploit it in multiple purposes, in addition to protecting the marine environment and protecting dolphins and sea turtles and sea cows, and protecting rare wild bird types from hunting and extinction, and also working to determine the standards of energy saving standards And the requirements of green construction, the procedures for protecting the ozone layer, proper dealing with radioactive materials, devices issued for radiation, chemicals, and addressing various environmental problems.

The Kingdom of Bahrain is witnessing a remarkable growth in the level of awareness and environmental attention, which is enhanced by continuous national efforts supported by plans and strategies that are betting on the awareness and behavior of society that has become an active partner in facing environmental challenges, as well as the Kingdom’s cooperation with various international efforts and initiatives that achieve environmental sustainability, which is always confirmed by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the personal actor of His Majesty King For the environment, it is necessary to continue serious solidarity and sharing responsibilities between all countries of the world, in order to protect the environment, and to support initiatives, programs and projects that aim to increase the green area and urban development, for a sustainable and future present with the prosperity of biological diversity and innate life in our world.

His Excellency Dr. Muhammad bin Mubarak bin Dinah, Minister of Oil and Environment, the Special Envoy for Affairs on the occasion of World Earth Day, which falls on April 22, stressed that the protection of the environment and shared responsibility begins with awareness and knowledge, and ends with behavior and practice in order to ensure the sustainability of natural resources and innate life.

In this context and enhancing societal awareness of the importance and preservation of water, in line with the goals of sustainable development and plans and strategies of the Kingdom of Bahrain Environmental, the Supreme Council for the Environment, in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Program, launched the National Campaign “Sustainable Water” under the slogan “Each drop of story” that lasted for four months and is accompanied by many events and various awareness programs that targeted various segments of society, to emphasize the importance of water As an essential element of life and development, the need to protect it and find innovative solutions to manage and rationalize its use.

Efforts are supportive of goals and are compatible with regional and global strategies to preserve the environment and combat climate change, and to emphasize sustainable initiatives locally and internationally, accompanied by increasing awareness and national action plans that reflect the firm commitment of the Kingdom of Bahrain to protect environmental systems, and its support for regional and international efforts to achieve sustainable development goals related to environmental protection and promoting security Climate, and the preservation of fungal life.
