The price of Brent crude, September settlement, decreased by 1.6% to $ 69.21 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude fell by 2.1% to settle below $ 67.

This decline came after Trump’s statements, which threatened to impose 100% “secondary” definitions on any country that he communicated with Russia within 50 days if a ceasefire agreement was not reached, in a move that sparked widespread controversy in the markets, but it did not include any explicit sanctions on Russian oil exports as some investors expected, especially after Trump’s promise earlier to issue an “important statement” regarding Russia.

“The imposition of secondary definitions is complex and difficult, and the markets do not fully trust Washington’s commitment to their application,” said Joe de Laura, the strategic expert in energy, noting that oil prices had increased by 1.8% before the plan announced, adding: “The only factor capable of paying prices to rise will be achieved only through a direct escalation against the Russian energy sector.”
