The Bahraini Scientific Center for Sustainable Development Goals of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, in cooperation with the French Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain, organized a dialogue event entitled “Bahar Talks: Oceans in the spotlight”, which brings together the scientific and youth community, in a way that contributes to enhancing environmental awareness, and expanding the circle of participation in protecting the oceans and the marine environment at the level of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the region, in the context of continuing to activate the results of the third United Nations summit for the oceans (UNOC3) hosted by the French city of Nice in June 2025.
The event was started with the screening of the documentary “THE CORAL ODYSSEY”, produced by Fondation Tara Océan and directed by Pierre de Parsko (2017), which dealt with scientific efforts to study the environmental systems of coral reefs in the Pacific Ocean, and the increasing effects of climate change on this sensitive marine citizen.
After the presentation, an interactive discussion session was held by Aisha Al -Shorouki, a specialist for sustainable development goals and vice president and actress of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the Arab Youth Council for Climate Change, where the opportunity to attend interact with the content of the film and engage in an extensive discussion on the fourteenth goal of the sustainable development goals: underwater life, through offering local and international approaches.
A number of experts and activists in the fields of the environment and oceans participated in the discussion, among them, Dr. Reem Al -Mualla – a marine biologist and the “Nawa” organization, Mr. Khaled Al -Saeed, head of the Bahrain Volunteer D for dive team and the CEO of the Bahrain International Marine Life Exhibition 2025, Mr. Silvan Crooter is a first ecosystem and a marine biologist. And Rahma Al -Askafi is an environmental specialist and a marine biologist, Fatima Al -Zaki is a youth activist and delegate of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the top of the ocean, which was chosen through The third green hackathon for youth.
The interventions focused on the importance of empowering young people, activating local environmental initiatives, and enhancing international cooperation to face climate change challenges, as well as emphasizing the need to protect coral reefs as one of the most important components of marine environmental systems.
