The American special envoy for Syria and the ambassador to Turkey, Tom Barak, revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin “Khan” was the Syrian regime and abandoned Bashar al -Assad under international pressure, noting that the political change in Syria was not from Washington’s management, but rather by a regional agreement led by Moscow.
In an interview with the “Rhodao” channel, Barak said that Putin was from “removing the lion” and that the new Syrian President Ahmed al -Shara was “ready” to hand over power. He added: “We were not part of the decision to change the system.”

In addition to his remarks on Assad, Barak angered the Kurdish forces loyal to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) after describing the federation as an “unsuccessful model”, calling for reconciliation with Damascus within the framework of a unified state. More than 35 Kurdish political bodies considered his statements “a departure from his role as a mediator” and a bias to the Turkish position.

Barak met the new Syrian President Ahmed Al -Shara at the People’s Palace in Damascus, on a visit that was described as confirming the beginning of a new political phase sponsored by international and regional parties, despite the continued differences over the form of the next Syrian regime.
