German coach Hans Felk ignited the atmosphere of Barcelona early, after he made a shocking decision to remove veteran goalkeeper Mark Andre Ter Stegen from the starting lineup for the new football season 2025/2026, to put the future of the German international goalkeeper at stake despite his adherence to staying within the Catalan team.
The end of hegemony
The 33 -year -old Ter Stegen received a sudden news from Flick that he will not be the first goalkeeper in Barcelona this season, in a fundamental shift to the position of the German goalkeeper’s shadow dominated for several years. This decision comes at a time when it has a valid contract with the club until the summer of 2028, which reflects the desire of the technical administration to renew blood and bet on alternative options such as the young goalkeeper Juan Garcia or Polish goalkeeper Vojcik Chesney, whose name was recently linked to the club.
Double disappointment
Barcelona administration previously hinted at her intention to market Ter Stegen this summer, but the latter expressed adherence to continuing and defending the colors of the Blaugrana in the new season. However, Felk’s decision made him a double blow, not only to abandon his basic services, but also to remove the character of the absolute preference he previously enjoyed in protecting the team’s goal.
Options on the table
According to the Spanish TV3 channel, Felk was keen to inform Ter Stegen early, assuring him that the door is still open to competition, without having an automatic priority. At the same time, the Barcelona administration ruled out the imposition of any coercive measures against the goalkeeper, such as exclusion of the matches, in respect of its history with the team.
Interested clubs
Amid this tension, several European clubs began to move towards the inclusion of Ter Stegen, most notably the English Chelsea, the French Monaco, and the Turkish stroke, who are watching his position in preparation for submitting official offers if the player decides to open the door for departure.
