The Syrian Civil Defense announced, on Friday, the continuation of the extinguishing of the raging forest fires in the Latakia countryside, which entered its fourth day since its outbreak on July 3. He explained that efforts are focused on the most difficult axes, especially in Jabal Al -Nisr.
Four countries in the air
16 aircraft from Syria, Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon will participate in the air operations, as part of regional coordination to confront fires. These aircraft carry out extensive sorties to control the extension of fire in mountainous areas and dense forests.
150 firefighters and 300 mechanisms on the ground
On the ground, more than 150 civil defense teams, firefighting teams, government agencies and volunteers participate, supported by 300 firefighting mechanisms and dozens of logistical support equipment. Heavy engineering equipment is also used to divide forests and open corridors that help the teams reach the foci of fire.
Participation from Jordan and Turkey in the field
Barrier teams from Türkiye and Jordan, along with the Syrian teams, participated in the field extinguishing operations, within the framework of regional cooperation. Foreign teams also contribute to supporting local efforts with technical equipment and expertise.
Syria requests the support of the European Union
Last Tuesday, the Syrian government asked to assist the European Union in extinguishing the fires, with the escalation of the size of the environmental disaster that threatens the population and forests on the Syrian coast, especially in the north of the countryside of Latakia and the Al -Farnsal area.
