This step comes after a previous decision issued by the US Food and Drug Administration in April 2020 to withdraw the Zantak medicine from the market, as a result of fears of the decomposition of Ranitidine to the NDMA compound known for its carcinogenic properties, especially when exposed to heat or the passage of time.
Lawyer Brent Wizner, the legal actor of patients, said that they still have a strong scientific record that supports their allegations, and will rush to prepare for a possible trial despite the judicial decision.
For its part, pharmaceutical companies have repeatedly confirmed that there is no reliable scientific evidence linking Zantac to cancer or that patients were exposed to dangerous levels of NDMA when using the drug.
