In discovery archaeological Nader, the Dutch National Museum of Antiquities announced the finding of a sword dating back to the eleventh century, during the maintenance of the Corty Linchoten River in March 2024, by building workers who were surprised by a long iron piece that was later turned out to be an archaeological sword.

The discovery of a rare Saif dates back to the Middle Ages in the Dutch River

The sword called the Linchentin sword is more than 90 cm in length, and is believed to be made between 1050 and 1150 AD of high -quality local iron, and was decorated with gold -plated copper ribbons, including prominent symbols, including an endless cross and an endless node, which gives it a unique symbolic character.

In its statement, the museum indicated that the sword was recently presented to visitors after undergoing accurate preservation work, as it was found exceptionally preserved thanks to the low -oxygen -of -oxygen water environment that prevented him from corrosion, despite the decomposition of its organic components such as the wooden handle and the grass.

Experts suggest that the sword was deliberately thrown into the river for ritual reasons, as this practice was common in that era, or that it was part of the burial rituals.

Amina Museum of Natural History, Ann Mariaki Wilimen, confirmed that such swords are considered to be the rarest archaeological discoveries, saying: When swords of the Middle Ages are found, they are often well preserved, especially if they are buried in a wet environment.

The museum also pointed out that the design of the sword reflects a transitional period in the arts of fighting during the eleventh century, as the military tactics began to rely on the horizontal appeal instead of traditional vertical strikes over the horses.

This discovery provides a rare and important glimpse of the military and social history of the Netherlands during the Middle Ages.
