With one vote, the US Senate voted in favor of President Donald Trump’s bill to reduce taxes and spending, in a legislative move that was considered the largest in his second term.
The law that carries Trump’s political and economic fingerprints aims to extend the tax cuts approved in 2017, and at the same time enhance the army’s allocations and migration enforcement agencies, in exchange for a widespread reduction in social welfare programs.
The legislation won the approval of 51 members against 50, after Vice President JD Vans broke the tie for the Republicans, amid a remarkable division within the same party, as three Republicans voted alongside all the Democrats who rejected the project.
The draft law is expected to move to the House of Representatives, in which Republicans enjoy a small majority of 220 seats compared to 212, while a number of Republican representatives have already expressed their reservations about specific items, which suggests the battle of close vote there as well.
