The annual statistical review of the Energy Institute showed today, Thursday, that the global carbon dioxide emissions from the energy sector recorded a standard level high for the fourth year in a row in 2024, with the continued increase in the use of fossil fuels.
The report said that the world witnessed an annual increase of two percent of the total energy supply in 2024, and all energy sources such as oil, gas, coal, nuclear and electrical energy and renewable energy were recorded, which was the last time in 2006.
He explained that this led to an increase in carbon emissions by about one percent in 2024 and exceeding the standard level recorded in the previous year at 40.8 GB of carbon dioxide equivalent.
He pointed out that among all world fossil fuels, natural gas witnessed the largest increase in power generation of 2.5 percent, and at the same time, coal grew 1.2 percent to remain the largest source of power generation in the world, while oil growth was less than one percent.
The report showed that wind and solar energy witnessed a growth of 16 percent in 2024, faster nine times than the total energy demand.
