The car market in Europe was raised slightly last May, as the strong demand for electric and hybrid vehicles helped compensate for the pressure caused by the irregular economy affected by global trade tensions.

High European car sales during May, with increasing demand for rechargeable hybrid cars

According to the Bloomberg Agency, new car records increased by 1.9% last month compared to the previous year to 1.11 million units, according to the data of the European Car Manufacturers Association issued.

The gains in major markets such as Germany, the United Kingdom and Spain have contributed to raising the total numbers, even as they were affected by the French market.

This improvement comes at a sensitive time in the auto industry, as European auto manufacturers face twice the local demand, the increasing competition from Chinese companies led by BYD, and political pressures to continue to transform into environmentally friendly cars.

The hybrid cars witnessed a qualitative shift in May, and sales of the rechargeable hybrid models increased by 46% to exceed 100,000 units, as buyers continued to prefer options that combine battery power and the ease of using the fuel tank.

Other hybrid sales have also seen remarkable growth, indicating that many consumers are still hesitant to shift to electric cars, while the prices of electric cars are still high, and the shipping networks are uneven.
