In the world of politics, leaderships are made either on the ground or behind the curtain, and the late President Mohamed Anwar Sadat was a unique model of a man who came out of the shadow cloak to become a peacemaker, and a leader who exceeded Egypt’s borders to create a political earthquake in the Middle East whose consequences are still shaking the world to this day.
Sadat, who was considered for years for the second man, did not have in the eyes of many the ingredients of traditional leadership, but a man who was fascinated by a quiet presence, simple appearance, but those qualities, as it seems, were the keys to the big game.
The vacuum after Abdel Nasser was the beginning of the ascension. On September 28, 1970, Gamal Abdel Nasser breathed his last breath, leaving behind a flat state between national dream and refraction after the 1967 setback, the shocking people, the defeated army, and the hardening regime, all of whom were in shock, and everyone wondered after Abdel Nasser?
At that time, no one saw in Muhammad Anwar Sadat, except for a temporary and consensual personal solution, politically weak in front of the whales in the Nasserite regime, such as Ali Sabri and Shaarawi Friday, even the leaders of the Socialist Union said it publicly: Sadat will not hold more than weeks.
But Sadat, the silent in public, was rearranged by the papers in secret. After a few months, Sadat blew a major surprise on May 15, 1971, in what was known as the “correction revolution”, as he toppled the symbols of the deep Nasserist state, from the senior officers and ministers, and at its time, an American newspaper said that the new Egyptian president is not as simple as it seems.
After his feet were proven at home, the West began to look at Sadat with strategic eyes, and unpublished reports say that a visiting professor in political psychology at the American University believed that he was working unanimously with American intelligence, began to get close to Sadat, the relationship was deeper than just academic consultations, but was a systematic plan to dismantle the traditional leader’s personality and formulate a new personality.
Sadat was convinced that charisma can be made and that peace will make him a global leader, and that the alliance with Washington is better than attrition with Moscow, and Sadat realized that playing with adults requires his exit from the cloak of Abdel Nasser completely.
In 1973, Sadat led one of the most important military battles in the history of the Arabs, and proved that it is not just a shadow for another man, but, after the victory of the transit, he began looking for another victory in the field of politics this time, so his sudden visit to Jerusalem came in 1977 as a political earthquake that no one expected, Sadat himself said in his memoirs: it was a risk, but I saw that whoever does not risk does not make history.
But that risk was not from a vacuum, leaked Western documents talking about long -term planning and soft persuasion from American parties, that Israel’s visit will make him the first Arab leader to enter history as a peacemaker.
The end came and the overthrow of the dream of leadership at the hands of the Brotherhood, and while Sadat was drawing his global image, he opened the political field for the Brotherhood after years of Nasserite repression, thinking that he was able to contain them, so they were allowed to return, write, and appear, and even used them to confront the critical left currents, but what Sadat did not count is that the snake is not tied, and when the facilities were stopped and narrow The screws again, the group turned into violence, and the end was tragic.
On October 6, 1981, in a military parade marking his greatest victory, Sadat was shot dead by those who made them himself from the cells.
The leader whose era has not been tolerated
Sadat, who was made by circumstances and supported by America and reconfigured by himself, changed the course of history, but he paid the price with excessive confidence, with contradictory alliances, and by leading it was not borne by the ground, he ascended to the top, walked on the edge of the danger, and the victim of the leadership that dreamed of being immortal fell.
