The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting, on Friday, after the extensive Israeli strikes on Iranian soil, according to the Guyana mission, which chaired the Council in June.
A diplomatic source told “Agence France Presse” that the meeting came at the request of Iran, presented by Russia and supported by China.
This step comes hours after Israel carried out a “pre -emptive” military strike at dawn on Friday, targeting sites inside Iran, and, according to informed sources, resulted in the killing of at least 20 senior military commanders, including the head of the Air Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
In a related context, Iraq announced an official complaint to the UN Security Council against Israel, accusing it of using Iraqi airspace to carry out the attack, considering this “a flagrant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.”
In an official statement, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned what it described as “the Israeli entity violating the Iraqi airspace and using them in carrying out military attacks in the region,” calling on the Security Council to “take the necessary measures to deter Israel and prevent the repetition of these violations.”
