Iran decides to change the name of Khaled al -Islambouli Street, the murderer of Sadat

The Iranian authorities announced that the name of Khaled al -Islambouli Street in Tehran, a street that was called the Egyptian military that assassinated the late Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in 1981.

Ali Reda Nad, a spokesman for the Tehran Municipality Council, said in a statement to the Iranian “Tasnim” agency, that the decision to change the name of Khaled al -Islambouli Street, also known as “the ministers” in the 6th region of Tehran, came after coordination between the Tehran Municipal Council and the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, within the framework of Tehran’s efforts to enhance the rapprochement with Cairo, which is witnessing an unprecedented breakthrough in relations between the two countries.

Ali Reda Nad confirmed that the street naming committee proposed several alternative names that will be presented in a plenary session of the Municipal Council next week for the final vote, noting that one of the options proposed by the committee is to name the street on the name of the former Secretary -General of the Lebanese Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah.

Relations between Egypt and Iran are witnessing a noticeable breakthrough with Abbas Araqji’s visit to Cairo, where he met President Abdel Fattah El -Sisi and senior Egyptian officials.
