Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain’s candidacy for the non -permanent Security Council membership reflects its firm commitment to the multiplicity of parties, and its deep belief in the ability of teamwork to bring about change. He said that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, may God protect and preserve him, and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, may God protect him, has always followed a balanced diplomatic approach, enhances dialogue, builds consensus, and produces practical solutions in a world characterized by complexity and constant change.
This came when the Minister of Foreign Affairs participated in the reception organized by the United Nations headquarters the permanent missions of the five candidates for the non -permanent membership in the UN Security Council in the elections that will be held tomorrow in the United Nations General Assembly, in the presence of foreign ministers in the candidate countries, namely: the Republic of Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Liberia, and members of diplomatic missions And a number of invitees.
The Foreign Minister said that the Kingdom of Bahrain during its membership in the Security Council will continue to defend peace and unity issues at the global level, and that it will work in a constructive spirit with various regions and cultures to build alliances, address common challenges, and enhance the rule of international law.
He added that the Kingdom of Bahrain will be keen to ensure that the voices of Arab and Middle East and Asian countries will be respected and respected within the council, and will pay special attention to promoting peace and stability in the Middle East region, especially in Gaza, to exert every possible ceasefire effort, ensure the release of hostages and detainees, support humanitarian efforts and reconstruction.
The Foreign Minister pointed out that the Kingdom will give priority, along with these urgent issues, for a number of vital issues, including cybersecurity to confront digital threats, maritime security to protect vital trade and combating piracy, in addition to a renewed commitment to fighting terrorism and drying its funding sources, and calling for the promotion of the participation of women and youth in decision -making operations at the international level.
Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain is still committed to supporting education as one of the pillars of peace, and as an effective way to combat extremism, especially among young people affected by conflicts, which was focused on the initiative of the Bahrain Summit that the Kingdom hosted in May 2024.
He said that the Kingdom is aware of the great importance of the role of the Security Council in addressing global challenges and disputes, and it will be a committed, honest and constructive partner in addressing the current and future challenges, with the aim of enhancing the effectiveness of the council’s work, expressing its wishes for success and success for the nominated countries in the elections and during its next membership period in the council.
The ceremony was attended by Ambassador Jamal Faris Al -Ruwaie, the permanent representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Saeed Abdel -Khaleq, Head of the Coordination and Follow -up Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the accompanying delegation to the minister.
