The head of the strategy at Babco Enemz, Alexander Van Felhoven, stressed that the three pillars of energy security, efficiency, and sustainability are the basis from which the company’s strategies start during the next stage, indicating that the balance between these pillars is an urgent necessity to ensure the continuity of the energy sector and its ability to keep pace with regional and international challenges.
He added during the first session of the thirty -second Middle East Conference for Petroleum and Gas «MPGC 2025», that energy security is not limited to ensuring the abundance of supplies, but also includes reliability that it provides at reasonable prices, whether for the population or the industrial sectors, stressing that the concept of the ability to withstand costs varies from one country to another according to the characteristics of production and consumption.
He added that sustainability represents the third dimension in the equation, as it is no longer possible to talk about energy security without including environmental dimensions, pointing out that the most prominent challenge is how to reduce emissions without prejudice to the quality of supplies or their efficiency.
Van Felhoven pointed out that energy efficiency should be a major axis in any sustainable strategy, explaining that reducing energy consumption is one of the most effective methods of cost in reducing emissions.
He said: «The more we consume the less energy in the production or industrial processes, the less needed the burning and thus the lower emissions.”
In his speech, he touched on the diversity of the energy mix in Bahrain, which is currently dependent on local gas, indicating that strategic plans extend for decades to come.
