According to a report issued by the Shendo Hospital for Traditional Medicine in Chengdu, the tests showed a noticeable decline in the bone density of the lady, which made her bones fragile to the point that she was broken from a simple movement. Dr. Long Xuang, the supervisor of her condition, stated that the patient used to cover her skin permanently and was keen to use sunscreen in all her movements, which deprived her body of the main source of the production of vitamin D.

Dr. Jiang Xiaoping, director of the department of spine surgery at the second hospital of the Guangzhou Medical University, said that such behaviors are common among some people who seek to protect their skin from the sun excessively, noting that the lack of UV exposure and calcium deficiency leads to a gradual deterioration in bone density, especially with age.

He explained that the human body begins with losing the bone mass at a rate ranging from 0.5 to 1% annually after the age of thirty, which makes maintaining sufficient levels of vitamin D and moderate exposure to sunlight is very important to maintain bone health.

Despite the benefits of sunscreen in preventing skin cancer, doctors warn against excessive use without balance with the biological need for sun exposure, because of this negative effects on bone health and immune system.

This situation sparked a widespread reaction through Chinese social media platforms, amid calls for a balance between sun protection and health, especially in light of societal pressures that drive some women to avoid the sun in order to preserve skin tone.
