The issue of developing the Muharraq market issued a schedule of “new business”, the municipal municipal council session, where the deputy head of the Municipal Council, Saleh Bouhaza, conveyed the dissatisfaction of citizens and merchants as a result of the removal of the side parking spaces adjacent to the market and replacing them with sidewalks and agricultural basins, considering that this change directly affected the movement of the market and the services it was providing to its visitors, which led the members of the council to call for re -evaluation The project.
Bohaza stressed that the Muharraq market is one of the oldest and most prominent popular markets in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and requires preserving its service and commercial elements, calling for an increase in the number of allocated positions instead of reducing them, because of this a direct negative impact on the market activity and its vitality.
For his part, member of the Municipal Council, representative of the sixth district, Fadel Al -Oud, stressed that the current project to develop the Muharraq market faced a wide objection from the people of Muharraq and the residents of Bahrain alike, as a result of the absence of side parking that facilitated access to the market, indicating that the council received repeated complaints in this regard from citizens.
Al -Oud called for a comprehensive reassessment of the project, stressing that the review of any development project is a natural and necessary practice to ensure that it meets the needs of society. He expressed his surprise at the refusal of the concerned authority to open the door for discussion or review the development plan, stressing that the Municipal Council has the full right to check each project that is implemented within its scope.
Al -Oud pointed out that all members of the council expressed their dissatisfaction with the existing development, pointing to the results of a questionnaire published on social media, showing that more than 80% of the participants expressed their dissatisfaction with the current situation, especially those related to the absence of nearby car parks.
He explained that the allocation of distant positions for visitors would expose them to the high temperatures witnessed by the Kingdom of Bahrain, indicating that there are visitors from the elderly and children, which limits the demand of citizens and merchants, and causes the decline in commercial activity, calling for the provision of practical alternatives that take into account the needs of parents and visitors.
Al -Oud concluded by renewing the municipal council’s demand to reconsider the project of developing the Muharraq market, stressing the need to listen to the voice of society and implement solutions that take into account the interests of citizens and merchants alike, especially with regard to providing side situations that serve the market and restore its vitality.
