The Israeli newspaper Haaretz published a report on an experiment of a volunteer British wound in Gaza, in which he said that the level of destruction and human suffering that he witnessed in the sector was unprecedented, and he did not witness an equal to him in the many areas in which he worked.
And d. Tomo Potokar, the British volunteer surgeon in Gaza, by writer Nir Hassan, who prepared the report to the newspaper, said that what he witnessed in Gaza is not compared to what he witnessed in the conflict of Ukraine, Syria, and Yemen.
He considered that what civilians are witnessing in Gaza “is completely different” from any other place in which he served, including Sudan, whose conditions also described the severity.
Continuous raids and evacuation
Botokar worked during the past week in two hospitals in southern Gaza, one of which was injured by an Israeli and evacuated raid, and the other was damaged by near bombing shrapnel, before orders were issued to evacuate the area surrounding them, which includes hundreds of thousands of residents.
In statements to the Haaretz newspaper, Potokar described the medical and humanitarian conditions as a catastrophic, saying that most of the wounded suffer from a deadly mixture of severe injuries and malnutrition, which complicates the chances of their recovery, and increases the possibilities of infection.
He said that the Israeli shelling affected a hospital in which he was operating, as missiles fell on the hospital campus during the raid. The strike led to a wave of panic among patients and medical staff, and the hospital left those who were able to.
Despite the partial return of the medical staff the next day, 3 additional raids prompted the entire work, and the patients and the remainder of the crew were evacuated.
Touching stories
Among the influential stories conveyed by the surgeon is the case of a two -year -old child who was seriously injured in his leg, and was awaiting surgery. After the evacuation, his family was lost, and it was not known whether he had undergone surgery or not.
He also narrated the case of a woman who was seriously injured, and she did not know that her family members were all killed in the same raid in which she was hit.
Botokar was later transferred to Al -Amal Hospital, which is affiliated with the Red Cross, but he was not safe there, as fragments fell from a 400 -meter bombing of the hospital, and injured the emergency department without any injuries.
Weak nutrition
The surgeon warned that weak nutrition among the population as a result of the continuous blockade weakens the immune system, and impedes the body’s ability to renew blood or wound healing.
He said, “People do not produce new blood, and their bodies begin to digest protein instead of fat for energy. Every wound becomes an additional burden on the body.”
He continued to say in a tone of great sadness, stressing that civilians, women, children, elderly, and people with disabilities who were subjected to the suffering of the “description”, and said that he heard daily about his colleagues who lost their relatives, or came to treat them in the hospital after their injury.
At the end of his speech, he received a notice from the United Nations that the overall evacuation of the region should be an imminent attack announced by the Israeli army.
