On Wednesday, the President of the European Union, Antonio Costa, congratulated Syrian President Ahmed Al -Shara, on the occasion of the lifting of European sanctions on his country.
The Syrian presidency said, in a statement. This came during a phone call that Sharia received from Costa, and dealt with the issue of lifting the sanctions.
She noted that the European official considered the decision a great support for the stability of Syria.
Costa stressed that the convening of the donors conference in Brussels confirms the European Union’s commitment to helping Syria in stability.
For his part, the Syrian President expressed his thanks to the President of the European Union and the member states for the decision to lift the sanctions.
Sharia described the decision as a historical step that will contribute to pushing the country towards a more stable future, stressing the importance of the international community supporting Syria at this stage.
He also pointed out that Israeli interventions still affect Syria, stressing the need for the European Union to stand by Syria to stop these interventions.
In the context of strengthening economic cooperation, the Syrian president welcomed European companies wishing to invest in Syria.
He said that the country is today a promising investment opportunity and an important economic corridor between East and West, according to the presidential statement.
The statement stated that Costa expressed his desire to visit Damascus, expressing his confidence in the Sharia President, who called for translating the content of communication into practical steps and a road map that serves the interests of Syria and Europe alike.
