In the context of the official working visit by a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Dr. Youssef Abdel Karim Bojiri, Director General of Legal Affairs and Human Rights, and Ambassador Dr. Arwa El -Sayed, head of the Human Rights Affairs Sector, met with Lord David Alton, Chairman of the Joint Human Rights Committee in the British Parliament.
During the meeting, ways to enhance constructive parliamentary dialogue in the field of human rights were discussed, and visions were exchanged on best practices and mechanisms to consolidate the principles of human dignity, and to enhance human rights standards in a framework of mutual respect and institutional cooperation.
During the meeting, Ambassador Dr. Youssef Abdel Karim Bojiri provided a detailed explanation about the latest developments in the human rights file on the national scene, foremost of which is the implementation of the National Human Rights Plan for the years 2022-2026, and the ongoing consultations with the relevant authorities to prepare a new national plan that reflects the legal priorities for the next stage. The development policies adopted by the Kingdom in the field of criminal justice were also highlighted, especially in the application of alternative sanctions and the open prison program, as tools that enhance corrective justice and support societal reintegration.
During the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of continuing this type of responsible parliamentary interaction, in a way that enhances building bridges of joint understanding, and supports the efforts of the two sides to consolidate the culture of human rights at the national and international levels, through open dialogue and exchange of experiences.
The two parties also stressed the need to continue communication between human rights institutions in the two countries, as a pivotal path to enhance mutual trust, develop human rights cooperation based on mutual estimate of national experiences, and awareness of the importance of respecting diversity in approaches and implementation.
