The Spanish parliament approved a majority of a law prohibiting the sale of weapons to Israel, in a session held on Tuesday 20 May 2025.
This decision comes in the context of accusations of Israel’s commitment to genocide in Gaza.
The law aims to prevent any military deals, including the sale of weapons or even military equipment such as the horses, to companies dealing with Israel.
Voting coincided with protests outside Parliament, where a crowd gathered in support of Palestine.
This decision is an unprecedented step from a European country, which reflects a shift in European positions towards Israel, as some analysts have indicated.
However, more details are still needed on how the law and the expected results are implemented.
The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, has announced his country’s intention to submit a draft resolution for the United Nations to end the siege on Gaza, saying, “Violence of violence in Gaza must be stopped.”
Sanchez, during his participation in the 34th summit of the League of Arab States in Baghdad, today, said that “the numbers of the martyrs in Gaza are enormous and unacceptable and violated international law.”
Sanchez called for supporting the two -state solution by recognizing the Palestinian state, expressing his support for the peace conference headed by Saudi Arabia and France for the two -state solution.
