On Tuesday, the European Union’s foreign policy official, Kaya Callas, decided to issue an order to review the partnership agreement between the European Union and Israel, a free trade agreement between the two parties, against the background of the Hebrew State banning aid to Gaza.
The Dutch News Agency (ANP) quoted the Dutch Foreign Minister, Kaspar Field, as saying that this matter came in the wake of Israel’s decision to ban the entry of aid to Gaza.
This comes after the Netherlands mobilized enough support for its proposal to review the partnership agreement between the European Union and Israel due to the latter’s continued expansion of its military operations in the Gaza Strip and prevent the entry of aid.
In a statement issued, on Monday, France, Britain and Canada issued a joint statement in which they threatened to impose sanctions on Israel in the event that its military operation in Gaza has not stopped, and if the restrictions are not lifted on the entry of humanitarian aid.
In the context, French Foreign Minister Jean -Noel Barrow announced on Tuesday that Paris support to review the partnership agreement between the European Union and Israel, to find out whether Tel Aviv respects its obligations to human rights.
Barrow called during the European Commission radio interview to open an official investigation on the extent of Israel’s respect for the second article of the agreement, which states that relations between the two parties must be built on the principle of “respect for human rights and democratic principles”, and review the agreement.
The agreement was signed in Brussels in 1995, but it did not enter into force until the year 2000 after the approval of all European parliaments, along with the Israeli Knesset on it.
The agreement is the cornerstone of relations between the two sides, as it aims to enhance political and economic cooperation between them.
