During the hours of the activities of the 78th edition of the Cannes International Film Festival, one of the most prominent and most prestigious cinematic festivals in the world, which witnesses this year a set of remarkable updates and special honors, is witnessing, in addition to distinguished Arab participation, led by the expected Egyptian return after a noticeable absence.
Strict rules on the red carpet in the 78th cycle
In a move aimed at enhancing the concepts of fitness and discipline, the Cannes Festival Administration announced updates in the bases of dress, which included categorically nudity on the red carpet or in any of the festival’s pillars, stressing that the decision came for reasons related to public fitness, just hours before the opening ceremony.
Honoring de Niro and Nicole Kidman
The opening ceremony is witnessing a special honor for the global cinema legend Robert De Niro, which gives the honorary golden frond, in appreciation of his entire works and busy career, a year before the fiftieth anniversary of the victory of his famous movie Taxi Driver in the Golden Parachis in 1976.
International star Nicole Kidman will also be honored with Women in Motion Award, which honors women’s contributions to cinema, and is granted as part of a partnership between the Cannes Festival and the KERING Group.
The 78th session is witnessing 22 films in the official competition, which varies between multiple schools and cinematic methods, which is considered a rich and varied cinematic season.
Egypt returns to the façade in Cannes
Egypt is officially to participate in the Cannes Film Festival through a special pavilion within the activities of the cinematic market accompanying the festival. The organization of the Egyptian wing this year comes with joint cooperation between the Cairo International Film Festival and the El Gouna Film Festival.
The pavilion aims to promote Egypt as a global filming site that enjoys visual and geographical diversity, highlighting Egypt’s capabilities in the infrastructure of cinematic production, to present discussion episodes and events to support young Egyptian talents.
The Egyptian pavilion represents a vital platform for cinema makers from Egypt to communicate with international production companies, and to open the prospects for regional and international cooperation, which enhances Egypt’s position in the global cinema industry.
