“Education”: the use of GPT Zero to verify scientific research

The Ministry of Education revealed that it is checking the research and projects submitted by students using the GPT Zero and Plagiarism Detector, to make sure whether it was prepared directly by artificial intelligence, and also indicated the mandatory of the higher education institutions by allocating a percentage of not less than 3% of their net revenues for scientific research.

In its response to the question submitted by the Shura Council member Dr. Anwar Al -Sada on her policies to promote scientific research, that she launched a national strategy for scientific research to encourage higher education institutions to scientific research in a way that creates an economy based on knowledge to achieve the purposes of economic vision 2030.

She explained that it obliges higher education institutions to allocate a percentage of no less than 3% of their net revenues for scientific research, in implementation of what was stated in Article 33 of Resolution No. 206 of 2023, stressing their endeavor to enhance and cultivate the value of the scientific honesty for students in conducting research and using applications and software that depend mainly on artificial intelligence in the field of education, such as the program of obstetric writing with artificial intelligence chat GPT ChatGPT, because of its great capabilities and its challenges as well at the level of the value and honesty of academic research.

To enhance students’ awareness of the necessity of adhering to academic principles in preparing research, education indicated that it makes sure that these research and projects are prepared by students through the use of the GPT Zero platform and the Plagiarism Detector platform, so that it can check that these research has been prepared directly by artificial intelligence, using students for the scientific theft program or impersonation, which is what It is known as Plagiarism, in order to confront any misuse of these means in the process of preparing students for research and projects and devoting the culture of scientific trust.

The ministry explained that it is training students on the concepts of academic secretariat, combating plagiarism, intellectual property, and providing them with guidelines and principles on how to deal with sources and organize research in a correct scientific way, such as the “Creative Common” and cyber security workshops for all students and teachers.

With regard to the Ministry’s efforts in promoting scientific research and developing research skills for students, she affirmed that it is making unremitting efforts to educate students about the importance of scientific research and developing the research skills for knowledge, and committed to the Higher Education Council to enhance the culture of scientific research among students in the basic and secondary education and university education stage. She pointed to the procedures followed in order to achieve this is to align with modern curricula and scientific research and its tools, and to include the concepts of scientific research in the curricula starting from the basic education stage, where students are encouraged to employ critical and creative thinking skills in research and investigation, and to support a research task that falls within the annual calendar of students.

Education emphasized that it adopts creative student talents in the field of scientific research within the leadership and innovation projects and schools affiliated with UNESCO, Bahrain’s achievement and the Globe International Scientific Research Program, and activating digital learning platforms to enhance research skills, as well as training programs such as the “innovators” program and Steam curve.

On the scale of higher education, the Ministry indicated the approval of decisions on scientific research methods within the study plans for the undergraduate programs offered by higher education institutions, and the generalization of local and international research conference information, and many students’ research has been published in scientific journals classified on the Scopus database.

With regard to the training of members of the educational body, education said that it trains the members of the educational body by allocating the educational research decision within the Diploma program, organizing scientific activities and lectures, as it publishes distinguished scientific research within the leadership projects, and obliges higher education institutions to allocate a percentage of their annual revenues to support the professional development of its academic members.
