Understanding emotion in societies often misunderstands, especially when it is placed in the scales of the mind. We tend in our nature to consider the mind the most important tool in making sound decisions, while emotion is seen as a weak point, which may lead to grave mistakes, especially in the fields of politics and administration. This belief is justified, as strong emotions, such as anger or impulsion, may lead some to unbearable actions.

But this view, albeit common, is not completely fair. Emotion, if directed properly, may be a constructive force that is not insignificant. In the issues of the homeland and society, the positive role of feelings is clearly shown, so the love of the homeland and the true belonging to it are not just mental ideas, but rather feelings firmly in the heart that pushes the human being to sacrifice, giving and loyal action for a better future.

The thinker, Dr. Mustafa Mahmoud, expressed this idea when he said: “The mind without an emotion does not make a person, and the emotion without a mind does not make instincts.”

In fact, historical experiences show that homelands are only built when the feelings of their children unite around one goal. For example, when Japan went through the post -World War II stage, the minds were not the only one who rebuilt the state, but rather the deep love of the homeland and societal solidarity was the real fuel of the renaissance.

In our Arab world, we find that national initiatives that succeed are often driven by strong feelings of affiliation, such as disaster donation campaigns, or youth volunteering in community service, all examples of how emotion plays a positive role in forming a sound national awareness.

No national project can succeed without relying on the feelings of love and harmony among the people of society. The homeland is not only built with minds, but also needs hearts that are believed in it, beating with love for everything and those in it. Hence, the responsibility of governments and institutions to consolidate these values, by spreading a culture of tolerance, enhancing the spirit of citizenship, and appreciating the noble feelings that push individuals towards joint work.

The integration of mind and emotion is the best way to build balanced societies. When the passion with the mind goes side by side, conscious and fair decisions are achieved, in the interest of all, and the pillars of a homeland are established not only on plans and numbers, but also on love and mercy.
