Reuters reported, quoting eyewitnesses, with the hearing of multiple explosions on Friday evening in the city of Jamo, located in the Indian part of the Kashmir region, for the second consecutive day amid escalating security tensions in the region.
Two witnesses indicated that the projectiles appeared in the sky of the night in conjunction with a sudden interruption of the electricity in the city, which increased anxiety and turmoil among the local population.
The Indian authorities have not yet issued an official statement clarifying the nature or source of the explosions, while the residents continue to monitor the developments of the situation amid fears of renewed clashes or military escalation.
International calls to reduce escalation with India
In a related context, Pakistan rejected international calls to reduce the escalation with India, stressing that the response is coming at the time it chooses, amid the escalation of the military confrontation between the two nuclear neighbors and the dozens of civilian casualties.
A spokesman for the Pakistani army, Ahmed Chaudhry, said in a press conference that his country will not tend to defuse the escalation and will remain in a state of war as long as its sovereignty and people are threatened, adding: After what they did against us, we should respond to them … and until now we have protected ourselves, but they will receive a response at the moment we choose.
