The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bahrain livestock company Ibrahim Zainal confirmed that the company and all companies operating in the field of meat and livestock have intensified their preparations to receive the blessed Eid Al -Adha, through extensive contacts to import the required quantities of sheep. He added that the company has a stock of 450 heads, and it negotiated and agreed with one of the authorities to provide it between 3000 to 3500 heads of Somali sheep, and it is expected that it will arrive during the next two weeks. He said, “There are other livestock merchants that also have stocks, and they expect new quantities to arrive before the end of the month.”

Zainal explained that the main source of sacrificial sheep has now become the countries of the Horn of Africa, such as Somalia, Sudan and Ethiopia, after the import stopped from Australia due to the requirements imposed by the Australian government on slaughter systems. He pointed out that the company faces additional challenges this year as a result of the prevailing tensions in the Red Sea and the Arab Sea and the unfortunate conditions in Sudan, which affected the ease and smoothness of sheep transport. The increasing demand from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the Somalia and Ethiopian markets as alternatives to the Sudanese source was reflected in the size of the sheep.
