Mohammed bin Abdullah opens the work of the Arab Gulf University conference and exhibition to address obesity epidemic: visions for a more healthy future

His Excellency the team, the doctor of Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, head of the Supreme Council of Health, opened the work of the Arab Gulf University conference and exhibition to address the obesity epidemic, which was held under the title “Visions for a healthier future” Thursday morning, to confirm that obesity problems and their relationship to chronic diseases and public health is the subject of the hour, considering obesity one of the most prominent health challenges facing the health of individuals and the quality of their lives at the present time, especially with a significant increase in the rates of obesity Age groups in recent years.

He said that the Supreme Council of Health is committed to continuing efforts to combat obesity and achieving higher levels of awareness and prevention in Bahraini society, stressing the importance of integrating efforts between health, educational, and social authorities, to ensure the provision of effective solutions through prevention, early diagnosis, and comprehensive treatment, at a time when solutions require a rapid move at all levels, including improving diets, increasing awareness of the importance of physical activity, And provide medical and psychological support.

During the opening ceremony, His Excellency the President of the Arab Gulf University, Dr. Saad bin Saud Al Fahid, valued the sponsorship of His Excellency the General Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa Al -Karima to the conference, and his constant keenness to support such medical conferences that contribute to achieving the visions and aspirations of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and his Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, may God protect them.

He pointed to the importance of this scientific event, which discusses an urgent health issue, with the participation of a group of doctors, scientists and researchers at the Gulf and the world, such as the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the Emirates, Qatar and Oman, explaining that obesity has become one of the biggest health challenges in the world, as it is related to many chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure, which puts a great burden on health systems and economies of states.

He said: “This conference reflects the philosophy of the Arab Gulf University in caring for scientific research and providing solutions to the health challenges facing Gulf and international societies, which is an opportunity to exchange experiences and opinions between scientists and researchers from different countries of the world to discuss the latest developments and scientific innovations in treating obesity, as well as methods of prevention and awareness of their risks to health to reach scientific and practical solutions to combat obesity in the Gulf region and the world.”

For his part, the head of the conference and head of the internal diseases department at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Arab Gulf University, Prof. Dr. Amjad Al -Baz, explained that this conference comes within the framework of the social responsibility of the Arab Gulf University, which continues its efforts to search for scientific and practical solutions to priority health problems, pointing to the danger of obesity as one of the global health challenges that require international cooperation to confront it.

He pointed out that obesity is no longer just an individual problem, but rather has become a health, social and economic challenge, which has serious effects on individuals and societies, so it will ensure nine specialized sessions, in addition to four major lectures, and workshops aimed at providing effective strategies to address obesity from multiple aspects.

This, and the sessions of the first day of the conference discussed the latest developments and developments in obesity, and the latest scientific evidence based on proofs regarding medicines and interventional procedures for their treatment, as well as reviewing doctors ’experiences from various specializations during joint discussion sessions to discuss complications of obesity on various main devices of the body, and the latest results of successful research and practices in the areas of health and nutrition were reviewed.
