On May 9, 2025 AD, the Kingdom of Bahrain opens its national participation wing at the nineteenth international exhibition of architecture – Venice Biennial under the title “A Free Wave”.
This is the eighth participation of the Kingdom in the international exhibition, which highlights the role of architecture in facing the global challenges with the slogan “smart, natural, industrial, and collective”.
The participation of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the Venice Biennial comes with a general authorization from His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, head of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities. Andrea Varguna contributed to the participation of coordination, design and research, and the accompanying publication participated in the accompanying research by Iman Ali, Abdullah Janahi, Alexander Bouzrin, Ketlin Muller, Eduardo Jackson Alvarez, Jonathan Breryli, Laila Al -Sheikh, Latifa Al -Khayyat, Leslie Norford, Maytham Al Mubarak, Maryam Al Jamiri, Mohamed Salem, Paris Bizanis, Viola Zhang, and fulfillment of the conclusion.
The wing structure was also co -designed by Alexander Bouzrin and Mario Monotti.
The pavilion, located in the Archigliri Arseni building, offers an architectural proposal to face the challenges resulting from the high global temperatures, through a negative external cooling system inspired by traditional cooling technologies in Bahrain, and aims to enhance the ability to adapt and achieve sustainability, especially in areas where increasing free waves are witnessing.
The design depends on the composition of an architectural structure that uses a heat well and a solar chimney to connect the terrestrial moisture to the external air, and provides an applicable model in multiple urban environments.
The wing highlights the possibilities of negative cooling and mashed structures in improving temperatures, as well as the relationship between climate, architecture and social justice.
The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, with the pavilion, launches a printed issue that includes digital analyzes, articles and polls that contribute to expanding the impact of the research project on which the wing was built in the Biennali.
