The prosecution of the Esna Center in Luxor, today, Wednesday, decided to renew the imprisonment of the young man accused of assaulting a cat in a live broadcast via Facebook, for an additional 15 days pending investigations, in the case, which sparked widespread controversy and a great popular anger.
The accused was seized at dawn last Saturday, by the security services in the Luxor Security Directorate, after the video spread, and the prosecution decided to imprison him for 4 days pending an investigation as a preliminary measure.
The accused faces accusations related to animal abuse and deliberately harming them, in an incident documented by himself in front of the camera inside his home in the Esna Center.
Activating the animal protection law
The prosecution continues its investigations into the incident, including examining the legal circumstances, amid popular demands that the animal protection law be activated and the penalties for the aggressors against weak organisms.
