Mr. Mohamed Khaled Al -Hazaa, Acting Attorney General, head of the Special Investigation Unit, stated that the unit had received during the first third of this year 17 complaints, the allegations varied between torture and abuse, and to confirm its role in protecting human rights in the criminal system; The unit started its necessary procedures in all these complaints.
Regarding the statistics of the unit’s work during the mentioned period; The unit listened to the statements of 36 suspicions and witnesses, while 49 accused and suspected members of the Public Security Forces were interrogated, and 7 of the complainants referred the forensic and psychiatric division.
With regard to what the unit has accomplished during the same period; The unit has finished its investigations into one of the claiming complaints in it by offering the transaction to referring those who attributed the accusation to the administration of the military courts in the Ministry of Interior to sign the appropriate disciplinary penalty, in exchange for the proven legal violations that require accountability, within the powers granted to the unit in accordance with the decision to establish its work and its business instructions.
