Watermelon prices began to decrease gradually after they were high at the beginning of the season, but the demand from citizens is still weak, at a time when the market is preparing to start the actual season within days.

Mohamed Sukkar, a watermelon dealer, said in exclusive statements to Cairo 24The watermelon prices reached at the beginning of the season to about 250 pounds per fruit, due to the lack of supply at the time, but the prices began to decline with the start of the harvest gradually.
He added that the prices are currently between 40 pounds for small sizes, and 80 to 90 pounds for large sizes, yet the demand from citizens is still weak.
He explained that agriculture has not yet begun in the villages of Zayyan, Qalqash and some of the neighboring areas, and therefore the harvest has not yet been made there, and the market is currently dependent on early production from some areas.
He pointed out that the actual season of watermelon is expected to start on May 25, which may help to increase the supply and price stability.
