The Wall Street Journal reported that US President Donald Trump asked in connection with President Abdel Fattah El -Sisi that he was seeking to ensure free traffic for American ships via the Suez Canal, but he refused.
Sisi refuses to request Trump
Sources told the newspaper that Trump expressed his intention to obtain support from Cairo in the operations against the Houthis in Yemen, specifically military support and exchange of intelligence or financing, but Sisi rejected his demands, noting that the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is the best way to stop the Houthis.
US National Security Council spokesman James Hewitt in an interview with Wall Street Journal has claimed that the freedom to pass American ships in the Red Sea would benefit partners around the world, including Egypt.
Trump has publicly asked to allow American commercial and military ships to cross through the Suez and Panama channels for free.
Trump said through his account on his own website, Truth Social days ago: The American, military and commercial ships should be allowed to pass through the channels of Panama and Suez, these two channels would not have found had it not been for the United States of America.
He added: I asked Foreign Minister Marco Rubio to immediately concern this.
