The Arab Gulf University organized an awareness event entitled “I am not sick, I am different”, with the aim of enhancing awareness of the spectrum of autism between members of society, and school students and children. The event came on the initiative of the students of the Autism Program at the College of Education, Administrative and Technical Sciences and students of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, in the context of their keenness to spread awareness and enhance the scientific and humanitarian understanding of this disorder.

The event included a scientific presentation that reviewed the development of an understanding of autism throughout history, while highlighting the most prominent theories and recent studies. Visitors also went through an interactive simulation experience that mimics some aspects of autism, giving them the opportunity to coexist with the sensory reality of injured individuals and enhance their sympathy levels.

The event witnessed a distinguished scientific participation from Dr. Wad Dagsani and Dr. Maryam Al -Shirawi, who presented scientific interventions that discussed the latest research developments and modern intervention methods in the field of autism disorder, which gave a rich scientific dimension to the event.

The Arab Gulf University emphasized that this initiative aims to reformulate the societal view towards autism, as a human difference, not a disease, and praised the efforts of students in organizing this event, which embodies the values of the university in supporting issues of diversity and social integration.
