In a long -awaited step from the players’ community, Sony began taking direct measures against the phenomenon of fraudulent games on the PlayStation Store, where in April 2025 it removed three companies known for the issuance of fake games aimed at cloning famous games from Steam cheaply and quickly to make profits without little effort.
Reporting counterfeit games began to bear fruit
The digital community did not hesitate to report these games, as it seems that the mass pressure and repeated reviews are original users and developers that helped Sony in making its decision to delete these games.
Games that were removed were trying to imitate famous games such as SuperMarket Simulator, Escape the backrooms, Bodycam, Lethal Company, The Exit 8 and other names that were popular on the Steam platform.
Developers under the microscope
Among the developers whom the campaign affected, we find Adventure Games, which was preparing to launch fake copies of famous games, but Sony stopped it before it officially published it.
Gaming Dev games that used to reproduce for illegally successful addresses were deleted, and Grizly Games was one of the most active companies in this field, as they published games with striking names that mimic realistic games but free from any real content or quality.
Fraud does not stop
Despite these procedures, the PS store is still filled with games classified as a fraudulent copy, and the use of artificial intelligence in the design of images and names has made it difficult to distinguish between the original and fake game, and this wave of games quickly sneaks to the store, which makes it difficult for Sony’s task to monitor quality continuously.
An alert to the players community
It is currently advised to be more careful when buying any game that looks familiar or suddenly famous on the PS store, especially if it is not promoted through official channels or reliable communities, and it is better to refer to user reviews or reliable sites before payment for any game that may be just a fake version of a known experience.
