Al -Malab newspaper – Fernando Caro, CEO of Bayer Leverkusen, the opponent of the German Football League, said on Monday that the club and his coach Xabi Alonso reached a “friendly agreement” that allows the Spanish coach to leave if one of the clubs, who played for him during his career, was called to take over his training.
Reports indicate that the former midfielder, 43, who has gone through a great career in playing for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Sabher Sussidad Club, is the strongest candidate to succeed Carlo Ancelotti in the Spanish capital.
The future of the Italian coach (65 years) with Real Madrid has become uncertain after the team left the quarter -finals of the Champions League, where multiple reports indicate that he may leave his position at the end of the season to fill the position of Brazilian coach, currently vacant, which may open the door for Alonso’s return to Madrid.
The former Spanish international, extending until June 2026, gave excellent performance with Bayer Leverkusen during his short training career. Alonso led the team to his first title in the German League, ending the 11 -year -old Bayern Munich’s hegemony, in addition to winning the German Cup and the German Super Cup.
“We are associated with a friendly agreement that if any of the teams he played, we will sit and talk, and we will not put any obstacles on his way,” Caro told reporters in Madrid today, Monday before attending the Laureus Awards ceremony, in which Bayer Leverkusen was nominated as the best achievement of the year.
“(Last year) Xabi received offers from important clubs, but he assured us that he will remain with us. Perhaps it is somewhat early to talk about that, the season continues.”

Caro said that Leverkusen’s relationship with Real Madrid was “excellent”, but he said that there was absolutely no contact from the Spanish club regarding Alonso.
“We are not naive, but the position of coach is very important for the club and we are preparing for the next season with him,” he added.
