Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a temporary truce on the occasion of Easter, to stop all combat operations in Ukraine from six in the evening until April 21And, in a gesture that it described as “human” on the occasion of the feast celebrated by the Orthodox Church.
During a meeting with the Chief of the General Staff Valerie Gerasimov, Putin said that his country expects from the Ukrainian side to adhere to the same and stop hostilities during the armistice period, stressing at the same time that the Russian forces will be ready for any provocation or potential breach from the Ukrainian side.
A test of how Kyiv is ready to resolve the conflict peacefully
The Russian president added that this truce will be a test of the extent of Kiev’s willingness to resolve the conflict peacefully, recalling previous violations of what he described as the “power truce”, which was violated by the Ukrainian side for more than 100 times.
Putin congratulated the Orthodox soldiers on the occasion of Easter, and said: “I would like to congratulate the Orthodox Christians fighting for Russia, and everyone who celebrates this holiday in our country and the world.”
He pointed out that the field situation on the front “is developing for Russia”, as its forces continue to “take confidence in step”, as he put it.
