From this standpoint, the Kingdom of Bahrain seeks to run for the membership of the UN Security Council for the next session, and this means that it is a step forward and unprecedented, and with a long-term idea to obtain this unspeakable seat in the council for the next period of its mandate, which was two years old, where Bahrain officially announced its candidacy for membership for the period between 2026-2027.
Where the elections will be held in the middle of the year 2025 during the United Nations General Assembly session, and if it wins, its membership will begin on January 1, 2026.
It is the importance of this candidacy and winning this seat, as many mean that it will increase and reinforce its position and prominent role on the international scene, and gives it a voice that affects global issues.
Likewise, this decision provides Bahrain’s opportunity for international decision makers to be able to participate directly and in discussions and council decisions on issues related to international conflicts, peacekeeping, as well as human rights -related decisions. This in itself represents an important step to enhance the regional and international role, and contribute to global peace and security efforts.
