Methods of calculating the ideal weight

BMI (BMI)

The body mass index is calculated based on weight and length according to the following equation

BMI (BMI) = length in meters x length per meter / body weight per kilogram

If BMI is less than 18.5, this means that a person suffers from thinness.

If BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9, this is the ideal scope of weight.

If BMI is between 25 and 29.9, the person is considered to be overweight.

If BMI is 30 or more, he considers a person to be obese.

However, we must note that the body mass index does not take into account the ratio of muscles or the distribution of fats, as it may not be accurate for some individuals such as athletes.

Calculate the waist ratio to length

Another method depends on measuring the distribution of fat in the body, especially around the waist. As follows:

The waist to length = the waist circumference is divided by length.

The unit of measurement of the waist and length is the same.

If the result is less than 0.5, the weight is considered healthy.

If 0.5 or more may indicate an increase in visceral fat.

Ideal weight (kg) = 50 + 2.3 x (length – 60)

For women

Ideal weight (kg) = 45.5 + 2.3 x (length – 60)
