The office of Judicial Investigator Tariq Al -Bitar in Lebanon began investigating the former Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Nihad Machnouk, today, Thursday, in the file of the Beirut Port explosion, according to the National Media Agency.
Last February, the head of the security security, Ahmed Kassabiya, was interrogated from the same file, and the director of employee affairs at the port, Marwan Al -Kaki.
On January 16, Al -Bitar appealed its judicial procedures by claiming ten employees, including seven military and security officials, and set dates for their interrogation on the massive explosion that occurred on August 4, 2020, killing more than 220 people, and wounding more than 6,500.
From the beginning, the Lebanese authorities attributed the explosion to storing huge quantities of ammonium nitrate inside amber No. 12 in the port without prevention procedures, and the outbreak of a fire whose causes were not known.
It was later found that officials at several levels were aware of the risks of storing this dangerous material and did not move a finger.
The President of the Republic and the government pledged in their first speeches to work to devote the “independence of the judiciary” and prevent interference in his work.
