Engineer Hassan Al -Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, participated in the round table meeting held as part of his visit to the sisterly country of Tunisia to head the meetings of the sixth session of the Egyptian Commercial and Industrial Committee joint, in the presence of Mr. Samir Obaid, Minister of Trade and Export Development in the Tunisian Republic.
The minister said that Egypt and Tunisia are bound by close historical relations and fraternal ties, noting that organizing this event and holding the sixth session of the joint commercial committee at this time reflects the keenness of the leadership of the two countries, President Abdel Fattah El -Sisi and his brother President Qais Saeed, to enhance and develop bilateral relations in various fields, especially in the economic and commercial fields, and in a way that achieves the common interests of the two brotherly peoples.
“Al -Khatib” added that the bilateral relations between the two countries witnessed momentum during the last period, as Tunisia hosted the activities of the seventeenth session of the Egyptian -Tunisian Supreme Supreme Committee on May 12 and 13, 2022 headed by the heads of the ministers in the two countries, as its activities included signing many memoranda of understanding and protocols that would enhance cooperation in various fields.
Egyptian -Tunisian relations
The minister pointed out that the challenges and fluctuations that the global economy is going through, and what the current regional and international conditions impose requires the necessity of intensifying cooperation and integration between the sisterly Arab countries, noting that in this context, Egyptian -Tunisian relations acquire special importance, as a model for constructive and fruitful cooperation, based on trust and mutual respect.
“Al -Khatib” pointed out that the economic and commercial relations between the two countries have witnessed a remarkable development in recent years, noting that the two countries have aspired by more of this cooperation and benefit from the great capabilities that are not exploited for the two countries, which can be activated to activate, to increase the volume of trade exchange and diversify it, and encourage investments in sectors of common concern.
The volume of trade exchange between Egypt
The minister noted that the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Tunisia witnessed tangible growth during the past year 2024 by 15.4%, reaching 434.5 million dollars compared to 376.5 million dollars during the year 2023, noting that the most important Egyptian exports to the Tunisian market include chemical products, cotton and food industries, while the most important Tunisian exports to the Egyptian market are in electrical appliances, currics, and their artifacts.
Al -Khatib expressed the aspiration of the two countries to enhance trade cooperation by overcoming the obstacles facing the movement of trade between the two countries, and working to increase Egyptian exports to Tunisia and Tunisian imports to Egypt, explore new opportunities for cooperation in promising sectors in addition to encouraging investment, calling on businessmen and investors from both countries to explore the available investment opportunities in Egypt and Tunisia, and benefit from the incentives and facilities provided by the government The two countries, as well as developing industrial cooperation by working to establish industrial partnerships between Egyptian and Tunisian companies, and focus on sectors with high -added value such as technological, food and pharmaceutical industries.
The Minister also pointed out that the two countries aspired to exchange experiences and technologies in various industrial sectors and work to activate the commercial agreements signed between the two countries, and to exploit the benefits they offer to reach broader markets where Egypt and Tunisia are related to a number of agreements that will contribute to increasing the volume of trade exchange, including the Agadir Agreement and the Great Arab Free Trade Convention in addition to membership in the COMESA gathering.
