Carla Selim, an economic expert in the Middle East and North Africa at Standard Charter Bank, said that inflation will remain in decline and will remain from 10 to 15% during the current year and then retreat to 9% during the next year, and despite the high energy price, inflation will continue to decline.
She explained during a press conference today, that the central bank will postpone the reduction of interest 2% in the May meeting, after our expectation of events, nor will it not happen to the pound in the near time.
She said that the value of the Middle East exports to America amounts to 50 billion dollars, half of which is energy and oil, and customs duties do not apply to it, and therefore there was no significant impact.
Export surplus from the economy of the countries of the Middle East
She pointed out that the export surplus from the economy of the Middle East countries is fixed except for Jordan and Iraq, pointing out that there will be no noticeable changes during the next three months, while there may be an indirect impact through 3 channels, the first of which is the reduction of oil prices due to fees, so all countries account for reducing the price of oil except Qatar, the Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman.
She stated that the second channel will be through the commitment of the Arab Gulf states to increase their investments in America in a confrontation, to reduce the decline in oil prices, and this creates a kind of anxiety for the Gulf states and affects their local investments.
As for the third channel of fears, it is twice the price of the currency as a result of the imposed tariff, which creates risks in changing the price of currencies, especially in countries that have flexibility in moving such as Egypt, and therefore the market expects the power of the dollars assets, but the opposite happened.
