The Economic Monitoring Center reported on Friday evening that a 7.2 -magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale hit off the coast of Papua New Guinea.

The Euro -Mediterranean Earthquake Center stated that the earthquake occurred at 20:04 UTC, and the earthquake center was 182 km southeast of the city of Kimby, with a population of more than 18 thousand people, while the earthquake center set at a depth of 49 km.
There was no immediate news about human losses or material damage.
Experts suggest that the tremor has widely spanned in the vicinity, with the possibility that the Kimby residents would have felt noticeable tremors.
The American Geological Survey explained that the earthquake is expected to cause tsunami waves ranging from a meter and three meters, according to the Tsunami Warning Center in the Pacific.
