The Capital Secretariat announced its continued intensive campaigns to address the phenomenon of street vendors, as it confiscated 268 charges, including 2203 mattresses and vehicles during the period from January to December 2024, while the January 2025 campaign witnessed the confiscation of 152 furniture and 47 vehicles, equivalent to 20 charges, as part of its ongoing efforts to preserve the cultural appearance of the Capital Governorate and promote public safety.

The Municipality of the Capital stressed that daily inspection campaigns are being implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and the relevant authorities to control violators and implement municipal laws, based on the 2019 public road occupancy law, stressing the importance of adhering to municipal regulations through practicing commercial activities through official channels dedicated in legal and licensed ways.

She pointed out that the spread of street vendors in residential neighborhoods causes environmental problems that negatively belong to public safety, given the lack of food commodities circulating to health standards, in addition to their presence in the main and branch streets and the exploitation of sidewalks leads to obstructing the movement of pedestrians that may cause traffic accidents.

During the year 2024, the campaigns resulted in the confiscation of 268 shipments that included 2203 mattresses and carts in the various regions of the governorate, especially in Sheikh Hamad Street, Sa`sa Street, Sheikh Abdullah Street, Imam Al -Hussein Street, Al -Zubara Street and Bab Bahrain Street, while during the January 2025 campaign, 152 mattresses and 47 vehicles were confiscated, equivalent to 20 charges.

The Municipality of the Capital affirmed the continuation of its efforts to combat all the negative phenomena related to the street vendors, while ensuring that alternative solutions ensure a balance between the interests of the sellers and the preservation of public order, renewing its commitment in cooperation with all the competent authorities to achieve a safe and organized urban environment for commercial activities, in a way that serves the public good.
